Workshop 1

Title:  Scientific Animation: From Biochemistry to Visual Effects and back

Presenter:  Luís Lopes

Summary: Luís will give a short insight on his path from studying biochemistry to the visual effects (VFX) industry and back to science. He will also speak about what is necessary to apply for a job in scientific visualization.

 

Workshop 2

Title:  Medical Affairs and Medical Science Liaison

Presenter:  Nuno Afonso

Summary: Medical Affairs role in the Pharmaceutical Industry of the XXI century: Why is Medical Evidence required before but also after Marketing Approval?  Why is Medical Education key to provide Healthcare Professional the most up-to-date scientific information in the use of innovative therapeutic solutions? Medical Evidence Generation and Medical Evidence Dissemination as key activities at the heart of the use of innovative medicines in today's healthcare. 

 

Workshop 3

Title:  Career Development

Presenter:  Filipa Moraes

Affiliation:  Ciência Clara

Summary: In this career development workshop the different paths and time lines of career planning will be discussed. Filipa will also discuss when to use a CV or a Resume. Participants will also learn the value of a Linkedin profile and will learn how to structure a strong cover letter.

 

Workshop 4

Title:  Improving skills to better communicate with lay audiences

Presenter:  Ana Mena

Affiliation:  Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC)

Summary: Mastering the way we communicate with non-experts can be a decisive skill, whether we are talking to high-school students, journalists, or trying to convince a funding agency or company to fund our research. In this workshop, Ana Mena will discuss the importance of communicating with lay audiences and some strategies to improve oral communication. Participants may be invited to participate in practical exercises.

 

 

Workshop 5

Title:  Towards a robust scientific system: the professions at the interface of science

Presenter:  Margarida Trindade

Affiliation: ITQB NOVA/ Plataforma de Interface à Ciência

Summary: Science is growingly dependent on highly technological resources, complex funding systems, rigorous ethical and legal frameworks and a fast translation of results to the market and society. Hence, the international competiveness of our national science system needs people acting as “facilitators” to support research, working at the interface of Science. In this session Margarida will approach the diversity and challenges of these professions.

 

Workshop 6

Title:  Medical Writing

Presenter:  Luís Veloso

Affiliation: Eurotrials

Summary: Medical Writers can assist at any point in the product development lifecycle across Phase I to Phase IV, and have experience in a wide array of documents, including clinical study protocol development, Investigator Brochures, clinical study reports, patient narratives, DSMB updates, regulatory submissions and other documents involving study data. This workshop will provide an overview of the large spectrum of activities of Medical Writing.

 

Workshop 7

Title:  Illustrated Science

Presenter:  Gil Costa

Affiliation: Champalimaud

SummaryAs a scientist your figures are your scientific legacy. Your peers will look at your result figures paying closer attention than when they read your discussion or introduction section. Sometimes figures are actually the only thing they´ll go through. You know this, you´ve done this yourself. Despite being such an important aspect of science communication design, it is often not optimally used by scientists. 

In this workshop we will cover basic subjects related to graphic design and applied subjects related to visualizing data and scientific information.

Workshop 8

Title:  Knowledge Transfer

Presenter:  Sandra Aresta

Affiliation:  CIBIO-InBIO

Summary: Sandra will provide an overview of the full spectrum of Knowledge Transfer (KT) activities and describe them both from the point of view of a KT officer (skills, daily tasks, and challenges), and the researcher willing to value lab results (do's and don'ts, benefits, requirements). She will also witness of her career track from the bench to the tech transfer world.
